Description

Special Needs Educators are expected to promote inclusion in mainstream schools, but often lack shared frameworks, pedagogical tools, and digital strategies

Too often disability has been treated as a label that leads to misunderstanding, limits students’ potential, reinforces marginalization and stereotypes, and lowers expectations for students with disabilities.

This course invites participants to flip over this perspective. In fact, accommodating the needs of students with disabilities (together with the needs of other marginalized learners) not only ensures equity, but by recognizing and valuing their unique strengths and needs, schools can create learning environments that are more diverse and enriching for everyone.

Designed specifically for special needs professionals who intend to better promote inclusion in mainstream school settings, this course combines theory and practical activities.

Participants will have the chance to explore the essential core principles of inclusive education and reflect on their role and daily responsibilities in promoting equity, access, and active participation for all marginalized learners (in line with their specific needs).

By the end of the week, they will be able to: define and identify the key aspects of their role in empowering marginalized students; analyze and apply the core principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction: experiment with the use of digital tools and AI to support accessibility and engagement; explore the use of Restorative Practices to encourage positive relationships and support more inclusive school communities suitable for all learners.
