Educators are now asked to prepare students to take action on the world’s pressing social issues: inequality of access to opportunities and resources, environmental destruction, and persistent economic exclusion.
Traditional forms of education often fail to equip students with the skills or mindset to create a sustainable impact and change in their local and global communities.
Building on the theme of social entrepreneurship, this course will expose participants to the concepts of social entrepreneurship and provide them with the knowledge, understanding, and strategies to explore these themes with their students.
Participants will understand how to support and guide young people in developing an entrepreneurial approach while acknowledging the opportunity to create social value and contribute to sustainable development in their local and global communities.
Furthermore, social entrepreneurship increases student engagement and motivation, as it provides opportunities for students to have a meaningful enterprise, a sense of purpose, and the ability to make a positive social change in the world.
Throughout the course, participants will be involved in a range of activities such as lectures, engaging in case studies, and conducting hands-on workshops.
They will discover the processes for establishing a social enterprise, attributes of successful social entrepreneurs, legal structures, and the Social Enterprise Model Canvas.
The course will cover challenges of social entrepreneurship and social enterprises’ impact, as well as the contributions that social enterprises can make towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a deep knowledge of how to educate and support students/learners in developing and sustaining social enterprises that will make a difference in society.
Participants will be able to assist their students and learners in navigating through the challenges of social entrepreneurship and will be competent to apply these abilities in their educational context, developing a socially aware generation of leaders and innovators.
