Description
The course will be of interest to participants who want to implement CLIL (content and language integrated learning) successfully in preschool and kindergarten classrooms, and it is a course that is thorough and very comprehensive.
As the course develops, participants will have a good foundation of knowledge about how young learners’ brains work and the differences between hard and soft CLIL and how they can be applied.
The course will begin with a brief introduction to the topics of CLIL and early childhood education, as well as some topics such as how to ideate, design, and introduce artificial intelligence in CLIL lesson plans, how to set up learning objectives, and how to appropriately blend language and content.
Participants will learn how to develop effective lesson plans and engaging CLIL activities appropriate for young children, as well as the significance of CLIL resources and materials.
Focus will be placed on the selection of resources and materials. Indeed, by using storybooks, songs, real-world cases, and outdoor activities, participants will improve their skills in scaffolding, assessment, evaluation, and classroom management.
Towards the end of the course, participants will reflect on their CLIL practice, complete their lesson plans, and share their final projects.
They will also investigate the role of CLIL in the community and discuss how they may approach professional development.
By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and skills to implement CLIL with kindness in early childhood education, contributing to establishing a friendly, dynamic environment for language learning for young children.
Understand and articulate CLIL principles: participants will be able to explain the fundamentals of CLIL, including the distinctions between hard and soft CLIL, and understand its application in early childhood education;
Analyze and apply knowledge of the young learner’s brain: participants will gain insights into how young children learn languages and will apply this understanding to create effective CLIL strategies for preschool and kindergarten settings;
Develop and design effective CLIL lessons with AI: participants will utilize artificial intelligence tools to plan and design engaging CLIL lessons, integrating content and language objectives;
Select, adapt, and create CLIL resources: participants will be proficient in choosing, adapting, and creating appropriate resources and materials for CLIL, including storybooks and songs, and will engage in resource sharing and collaboration;
Implement classroom management and scaffolding techniques: participants will demonstrate effective classroom management strategies and scaffolding techniques to support language learning in a CLIL context;
Assess and evaluate CLIL learning: participants will design and implement assessment and evaluation methods to measure both language and content knowledge in young learners;
Reflect on practice and plan for professional development: participants will engage in reflective practices to assess their own CLIL teaching methods, set personal improvement goals, and plan for ongoing professional development, including understanding the role of the community in supporting CLIL.
